Qualcomm, the world's largest mobile phone chip vendor has designed new chips that would allow mobile phones to connect to 5G networks across the world that may have operate differently according to region. The new X60 chip combined with a new antenna chip will combine signals dispatched over the range of frequencies used in the two flavours of 5G networks. In a number of regions the sub-6 frequencies are used by 5G networks, but in areas like the United States the "millimeter wave" frequencies are used for faster data speeds in urban areas. These chips will be smaller and more energy-efficient due to the use of 5-nanometer chip technology.
