The government of Togo has chosen Atos and Idemia to create a national digital ID program using the MOSIP platform. This program will include biometric features like fingerprints, facial scans, and iris scans for identification. The financial details and timeline have not been disclosed, but funding is expected to come from the World Bank-supported West African Unique Identification (WURI) program.
The Togolese Agency for Identification (ANID-TOGO) started collaborating with MOSIP in late 2021 to develop the national ID system in line with the WURI initiative. Atos and Idemia will oversee the entire project, handling everything from planning to operating digital ID cards. They will provide the necessary biometric system and enrollment kits, integrating the Togo eID with relevant national and local systems.
The project also includes creating a citizen website and a scalable architecture that can adapt to future program needs. Leading this project, the Identity Agency of Togo emphasises the importance of local-level knowledge and support to ensure the program's long-term sustainability. Alpha Barry, CEO of Atos Africa, believes this program will be crucial in Togo's digital transformation and national development.
