According to a new report by DLA Piper, EU regulators have imposed 114 million euros in fines for data breaches since mid-2018. Overall, France has imposed the biggest single fine, with 50 million euros against Google, while the Netherlands, Britain and Germany are first regarding the number of data breach notifications. Also, over 160,000 data breach notifications have been reported across EU Member States (plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) since the GDPR came into force. According to Reuters, the largest single penalty threatened so far has been in the UK, where the regulator has proposed a fine of 183 million pounds against the airline company British Airways following the data theft of half a million customers.
