Amazon announced the launch of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Diagnostics Development Initiative to accelerate the development of diagnostics solutions for coronavirus. The e-commerce giant said it will invest USD$20 million to support diagnostic research, innovation, and development to increase the collective understanding and detection of coronavirus. The newly launched programme will be open to accredited research institutions and private actors. The emphasis will be given on coronavirus given the current circumstances, however other infectious diseases will be considered as a separate project. Amazon's announcement came after the World Health Organization (WHO)'s Digital Health Technical Advisory Group called for more private sector co-operation to combat the pandemic.
