The government of India will start issuing biometric passports, following a successful pilot in which 20,000 official and diplomatic passports were processed. The passports contain biometric chips and comply with the latest International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements. They can be used for easy identification and verification in international airports. The passports will be issued from all 36 passport offices in the vast country.
