According to a Reuters report, the Ministry of Home Affairs of India stated that use of a contact tracing app, Aarongya Setu, will be made mandatory for all workers, both private and public as the government is set to approve the reopening of businesses in low-risk areas. Company executives will be held liable to ensure 100% coverage for their employees. Privacy advocates are concerned about the mandatory use of the app, citing the ambiguity surrounding how the data will be used and the lack of privacy laws in India. The government stated that all data is anonymised, therefore the app will not compromise privacy of citizens.
