ICANN Managed Root Server instance installed in Palau

Jul, 02, 2023 Hi-network.com

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the Palau National Communications Corporation have announced the successful installation of an ICANN Managed Root Server (IMRS) instance in Palau. According to ICANN Chief Technology Officer David Conrad, the IMRS instance contributes to improving root zone Domain Name System (DNS) service, and augmenting the technical stability and resilience of the DNS in the region. ICANN currently manages over 165 IMRS instances around the world, most of them being hosted by third parties. An IMRS instance uses an Internet traffic routing technique known as 'anycast' that allows all the root server's instances to have the same two Internet protocol (IP) addresses (an IP version 4 (IPv4) address and an IPv6 address) and to serve the same DNS content.
