Dell Technologies informed the affected customers of a data breach involving a Dell portal, which was first reported by Daily Dark Web on 29 April.
In the email sent by Dell and viewed by TechCrunch, the company stated that it is investigating the incident and that customer names, physical addresses, Dell hardware and order information, including service tag, item description, date of order and related warranty information, were breached.
Dell assured that no email ID, contact numbers, financial or payment information, or any highly sensitive customer information was breached. The company has not commented if this breach resulted from an inadvertent error or was caused by a malicious actor.
Downplaying the incident, Dell further wrote in the email, 'We believe there is not a significant risk to our customers given the type of information involved.' The company also shared that 'there is a significant risk given the limited information impacted.'
So far, the company has not publicly shared any information about the incident. On reaching out to Dell, TechCrunch provided similar information to what was provided to affected customers.
