The Council of Europe's Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAI) held its inaugural meeting on 4 April 2022 in Rome. Building on the work of its predecessor (the Ad hoc Committee on AI (CAHAI), CAI is tasked with establishing an international negotiation process and conducting work to elaborate a legal framework on the development, design, and application of AI, based on the Council of Europe's standards on human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. Mr Thomas Schneider (Switzerland) was elected as the group's chair.
