The European Parliament and the EU member states have reached a political agreement on the Commission's proposal on a standard charging solution adopted in September 2021. By autumn 2024, mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, earbuds, digital cameras, headphones and headsets, handheld videogame consoles and portable speakers that are rechargeable via a wired cable will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C port, regardless of their manufacturer. The deadline for laptops is 2026.
