This article explains how to add multiple users in Chrome for macOS.
Google Chrome provides the ability to set up multiple users, each with a separate virtual copy of the browser on the same machine. You can take things a step further by logging into Chrome with your Google account to sync bookmarks and more across all your devices.
Follow these steps to add a new user profile to Chrome:
With Chrome open, go toProfiles>Add Profile.
SelectContinue without an accountor, to connect your Google account for syncing purposes, chooseSign inand log in.
Name the profile and choose a theme color.
PressDone.A new window opens that represents the start of a new browsing session for the profile you just created.
It might sound confusing to find your Chrome profile if you have several profiles connected at once, but it's actually really easy to switch to a different one at any time.
Click the blank profile icon or the avatar at the top right of the program, right next to the three dots.
Locate theOther Profilessection at the bottom of the menu.
Select thepencil iconto change the profile name, color theme, and avatar.
Click a profile to open it immediately.
The benefit of logging into your Google account in Chrome instead of using a local account is that you can sync bookmarks, extensions, settings, passwords, and more, which is ideal if you use Chrome on other devices. To keep all your data consistent across all your Chrome installations, follow these steps to set up sync:
Click the profile avatar next to the address bar and selectTurn on sync.
Log in to your Google account when asked.
Confirm turning on sync by selectingYes, I'm in.
OpenSettingsby pressingCommand+comma(, ) or by finding it in thethree-dotmenu at the top right.
Go toSync and Google services>Manage what you sync.
Chrome syncs everything by default, including your browsing history, addresses, and passwords. SelectCustomize syncif you wish to turn anything off.
On theSync and Google servicesscreen are some extra settings to be mindful of. By default, Google Chrome encrypts your synced passwords with your Google account, but it's not the most secure option. This screen lets you encrypt your data (everything but Google Pay addresses and payment methods) with your own passphrase, preventing Google from reading any of it.
Follow these steps to remove a profile from Chrome. If you're logged in to a Google account, doing this willnot delete the account. However, if you're using a local account, disconnecting itwill purge bookmarks and anything else associated with the profile (back up your bookmarks to keep them).
Select theprofile switcherat the top right.
Click thesettings icontoward the bottom.
Select thethree dotsnext to the profile you're removing.
ClickDelete >Delete.
