The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology demanded that apps put a halt on the illegal collection and use of personal data in a sweep targeting some of the country's largest apps. According to Technodes, the ministry announced a 'rectification campaign' against apps that 'infringe on user rights' and do not take steps to comply with regulations, threatening to halt their operations or take them down completely. The platforms will have until 10 November to carry out self-inspections and make changes, or otherwise, face suspension or blacklisting.
