China introduced second draft of the Personal Information Protection Law

Chinese government released the second draft of the Personal Information Protection Law at the National People's Congress Standing Committee in March 2021. According to the Stanford DigiChina Cyber Policy Center's translation of the draft, the Article 49 states that when a natural person is deceased, the rights of the individuals as to personal information handling activities shall be exercised by the next of kin. The next of kin thereby has the right to decide relating to the deceased's personal information, limit or refuse the handling of the deceased's personal information by others, access and copy the deceased's personal information from personal information handlers, request the deceased's personal information handlers correct or complete their personal information when it is incorrect or incomplete, and more.
