Tech companies urge FCC to reinstate net neutrality

Mar, 19, 2023 Hi-network.com

A coalition of Internet companies led by Mozilla sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) asking the agency to immediately bring back net neutrality. Although net neutrality enjoys bipartisan support among the American public, Democrats in control of Congress and the White House is seen as a reason for more optimism in the reinstatement of net neutrality. Additionally, Jessica Rosenworcel was recently appointed to lead the agency and it can be a new opportunity to establish net neutrality rules at the federal level in the near future. In the letter, ADT, Dropbox, Eventbrite, Reddit, Vimeo, Wikimedia and Mozilla reinforce the importance of net neutrality protections 'as more offices and classrooms continue to shift to online settings during the pandemic', helping spark the country's recovery. Net neutrality was implemented during the Obama administration, however the FCC's Restoring Internet Freedom Order took effect on 11 June 2018, repealing this order. Since then many states have passed their own net neutrality laws.
