The Government of New South Wales (NSW) has published an Internet of things (IoT) policy, launched at IoT Alliance Australia's IoT Impact Conference that took place in Sydney on 15 October. The policy aims to encourage the ethical use of IoTs. It details the government stance on IoTs and highlighting the following principles: (a) having a clear understanding of desired business outcomes; (b) considering the suitability of IoT; (c) using privacy by design through minimising personal data collection; (d) addressing cybersecurity issues; (e) treating collected data as a public asset(f) prioritising interoperable IoTs; (g) planning network and connectivity needs; (h) ensuring data is spatially enabled. The policy also features eight modules that cover issues varying from initial IoT project planning to assess the actual use of IoT in a given project.
