According to the Wall Street Journal, New York City council members are moving to regulate the use of facial-recognition software, as three bills are being considered by the City Council and would impose guidelines on landlords and businesses using facial-recognition software and other biometric-data systems. According to draft legislation, building owners that use this technology would be for instance required to register with the city, which would maintain a public database on the city's website. Though many residents said they support the legislation, they would prefer to see the technology banned outright. According to the WSJ, the legislation could come up for a vote by the end of the year.
