James Clapper, the director of the US National Security Agency, informed that the NSA calculated that the growth of commercially available encryption tools has already reached the level projected to take seven years. He blamed Snowden revelations for this effect, emphasising that the NSA doesn't find this trend a positive one. Nevertheless, he added that there is no such thing as unbreakable encryption. Earlier, Snowden suggested that the encryption has moved from "esoteric practice to mainstream" after the 'Riley' decision in 2014 when the courts have recognised that in the digital age the unlimited access of government to aggregated data of citizens is different from the pre-digital era.
