The Kenyan medical insurance company AoN Minet has temporarily suspended fingerprint identification for teachers and their dependants seeking medical services. This is meant to reduce chances of exposure to coronavirus through shared fingerprint readers. AoN Minet provides medical coverage for over 218 000 public school teachers as well as their dependents in various hospitals countrywide. Instead of fingerprint readers, the company is exploring alternative means of identification including access cards, optical, facial and voice recognition. In the meantime, teachers will receive a one time pin (OTP) code to facilitate access to medical services.
