Gig workers sued Uber for aggressive in app-messaging

Oct, 22, 2023 Hi-network.com

A group of drivers sued Uber for violating their employment rights with aggressive in-app messaging urging them to support the ride-hailing company position anti-employment. Uber has frequently sent messages to its drivers asking them to support Proposition 22, which might replace a California law that requires the company to make its drivers employees. The proposition will be voted in November 2020. Uber and other ride-hailing companies have spent around US$200 million on TV ads and cell phone messages to warn drivers about the drastic consequences of being reclassified as employees. Drivers sued Uber claiming that the company has violated their labor rights by engaging in illegal political coercion. Moreover, the lawsuit alleges that Uber has sent misleading facts about Proposition 22 to its drivers.
