On 14 March 2023, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ordered Epic games, the maker of the Fortnite video game, to pay US$245m for consumers regarding the use of dark patterns misleading players into unwanted purchases and for allowing children to accumulate charges without parental authorization.
FTC also prohibited Epic games from charging consumers without consent and blocking consumers from accessing their accounts for disputing unauthorized charges. Furthermore, the FTC plans to use the money to refund consumers.
