The UK's Defense Committee published a report titledThe Security of 5G, noting that the current regulatory situation for network security is outdated and unsatisfactory. It stated that the current unacceptable situation has led to commercial concerns being prioritised over those of national security. The committee said it supports the UK government's decision to remove Huawei from its 5G networks by 2027. However, it also proposed the date to be moved forward to 2025, which the committee considered economically feasible. Furthermore, the committee concluded that the vendor market for 5G equipment in the UK is not diverse enough, while emphasising that Open RAN presents an opportunity to move from the current consolidated vendor environment.
