OpenAI explores diverse input and global regulation for AI decisions

22 de mayo de 2023 Hi-network.com

OpenAI's president, Greg Brockman, announced at the AI Forward event that the company is exploring ways to gather diverse input on decisions that impact its artificial intelligence and highlighted the importance of global regulation. They are considering a democratic approach similar to Wikipedia, where people with different perspectives collaborate to agree on rules and policies.

With ChatGPT gaining popularity but also raising concerns about deepfakes and misinformation, OpenAI also suggested coordination among governments for safe AI development. Brockman drew inspiration from platforms like Wikipedia and proposed the establishment of a body similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to impose restrictions on AI deployment, verify compliance with safety standards, and monitor computing power usage.

He also suggested a global agreement to limit the annual growth of advanced AI capabilities or a collaborative international project involving major governments. Last week, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman presented ideas to US lawmakers and is currently engaging with European policymakers to discuss these proposals.
