Is GoDaddy Down... Or Is It Just You?

Apr, 19, 2024 Hi-network.com

GoDaddy (also known as Go Daddy) is a popular web hosting and domain registration service, so if you can't connect to it, you may be wondering if your GoDaddy server is down.

It could be that the entire service is down or it might mean that there's a problem with your computer. It can sometimes be difficult to know whether there's a GoDaddy outage or if the problem is just with you, but there are usually some key signs that it's one or the other.

How to Tell If GoDaddy Is Down

If you think GoDaddy is down for everyone, try these steps:

  1. Check the GoDaddy System Status page.

If there's a major issue with GoDaddy, sometimes this system status page won't load.

  2. Search X (formerly Twitter) for#godaddydown. Pay attention to when people last tweeted the hashtag. Some of the tweets may be from a while ago and therefore not relevant to your current issue.

While you're on X, check GoDaddy's X account for any updates on whether GoDaddy is down. You can tweet them with your issues too if you want further assistance.

If you can't open X either, and other sites like YouTube or Google are also down, then the problem is likely on your end or with your ISP.

  3. Use another third-party "status checker" website like Down For Everyone Or Just Me, Downdetector, or Is It Down Right Now?

If no one else is reporting issues with GoDaddy, then the problem likely lies on your end.

What to Do When You Can't Connect to GoDaddy

There are several things you can try if GoDaddy and its services seem to be working fine for everyone else but you:

  1. If your GoDaddy email seems to be down, check the settings in your email program or app in case they're incorrect. See if you're able to log onto GoDaddy email via your browser but not your mail program or vice versa, and adjust the settings accordingly.

  2. Restart your web browser. Close all the browser windows, then close the entire browser, wait 30 seconds, open one window, and then try accessing GoDaddy again.

  3. Clear your browser's cache.

  4. Clear your browser's cookies.

  5. Scan your computer for malware.

  6. Restart your computer.

  7. While not very common, there could be an issue with your DNS server which prohibits you from viewing GoDaddy hosted websites. If you want to try switching DNS servers, there are plenty of free and public options, providing you feel comfortable completing this complex process.

If nothing has worked yet, you're probably dealing with an internet problem. For example, there may be an issue with your ISP's ability to connect to GoDaddy based websites right now, or there may be a bigger problem afoot. Contact your ISP to request further help.

GoDaddy Error Messages

As a web hosting and email provider, GoDaddy tends to use standard HTTP status code errors. It's worth being reminded of the most important ones.

  • 401 - Authentication Required. You need a username and password to log into the particular page.
  • 403 - Forbidden. You don't have permission to view the chosen file or folder.
  • 404 - Not Found.The web page you're trying to access doesn't exist.

Like with all online services, if GoDaddy is down with a message about some sort of maintenance, then waiting it out is all you can do. Sometimes this maintenance impacts every GoDaddy user, but sometimes it's just a small portion. This is especially true with web hosting where certain servers can have issues rather than the entire service.
