The European Data Protection Board (EDPB), the body that brings together Europe's national data protection authorities, announced on 13 April that it has set up a Task Force on ChatGPT. This dedicated task force will promote cooperation and share information on potential enforcement actions by data protection authorities. This could be a potentially significant first step towards a unified policy for the setting of privacy and data protection rules for artificial intelligence.
The EDPB's announcement is a follow-up to Italy's temporary ban of ChatGPT unilaterally last month. Similar restrictions or investigations into potential privacy violations have also been carried out in Germany and Spain.
