On 22 January 2024, two unofficial versions of the consolidated text on the proposed EU Artificial Intelligence Act were disclosed online.
The longer version found its way to Euractiv Technology Editor Luca Bertuzzi, who posted it online. Offering his insights into ongoing negotiations, Bertuzzi explained, 'The document was shared with EU countries [21 January] yesterday afternoon, ahead of a discussion on Wednesday within the Telecom Working Party, a technical body of the EU Council, and formal adoption at the ambassador level (i.e. COREPER) on 2 February. (...) France is still testing the waters with other countries on the possibility of forming a blocking minority.' Bertuzzi added, 'the picture will become clearer when the member states provide their feedback at the technical level.'
Shortly following Bertuzzi's post, European Parliament Senior Advisor Laura Caroli also made the consolidated 258-page document publicly accessible.
