Dubai police to deploy driverless cars by 2020

The Police General Command in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has announcedplans to deploy driverless vehicles on the city roads by 2020. The institution signed a memorandum of understanding with technology company Acacus Technologies, envisioning several phases of revamping the fleet of police patrol vehicles to integrate new technologies. In a first phase, the cars will be augmented with basic capabilities such as cameras and video analytics, while the subsequent stages will include object detection, tracking, and advanced driverless technology. The initiative was described as being in line with the UAE's authorities overall plans to 'make Dubai the smartest city in the world by harnessing technology at the service of all'.
