In a project funded by the Australian Federal Government's Genomics Health Futures Mission, the University of Tasmania will set up a citizen jury of 24 individuals to deliberate on gene editing regulation and ethics. The two-year study, titled 'Genome Editing: Formulating an Australian Community Response', will examine how to gather community opinion on the use of innovative gene editing. The jury will hear from experts and advocates about gene editing technologies and will deliberate on how public policies and regulations should govern such technologies. The deliberations will then be analysed, reported to the government, and publicised.
