Cameroon to enhance children's safety online

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, appeared before the Cultural Affairs Commission at the National Assembly to defend a draft law on child online protection in Cameroon. The proposed law aims to address the growing concerns about the uncontrolled use of social media, particularly among young people, by implementing mechanisms to ensure their safety and well-being online. Zondol Hersesse, President of the National Assembly Committee for Constitutional Law, Human Rights, and Freedoms, emphasized the need to protect minors online. Cameroonian legislators are also collaborating with META specialists to discuss methods to safeguard children from cyberbullying since there have been multiple examples of kids being hurt on social media. According to UNICEF, Over a third of young people in 30 countries have reported being harassed online.
