Ride-hailing service Uber won a court case obtaining the licence to continue operating in London after having been denied by the public authority Transport for London (TfL). The case has been disputed since September 2017. TfL discovered several safety violations in Uber's operations, including the verification of drivers' photography, insurance, and licenses. A magistrate had reinstated the license in 2018, but TfL once again refused to extend it in 2019. The new ruling by the Westminster court provided Uber an 18-month provisional license. The licence is conditioned upon Uber's compliance with more than 20 requirements, including the submission of safety records to an independent board of directors.
