Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a chip that may enable mobile devices to run powerful artificial intelligence algorithms and can help boost the Internet of Things. The chip has been designed to implement neural networks (large virtual networks of simple information-processing units, which are modeled on the anatomy of the human brain) in a way that it could enable mobile devices to run powerful artificial intelligence algorithms locally (rather than uploading data to the Internet for processing). With such algorithms implemented, Internet of Things devices could make important decisions locally, entrusting only their conclusions, rather than raw personal data, to the Internet, according toThe Economic Times.
