Authorities in New Delhi released a new legal framework for ride-hailing apps in India. The new rules limit companies such as Ola and Uber to only draw a fee of up to 20% on ride fares. From now on, surge pricing, which is charged when ride-hailing services experience peak demand, is limited to a maximum of 1.5 times of the base fare. Workers will not be permitted to work more than 12 hours in a day. Additionally, companies must provide insurance coverage to their drivers. Finally, female passengers looking for a pooled service must have the option to share the ride with only female passengers
