ICANNhas published the results of its Phase II Assessment of the Competitive Effects Associated with the New gTLD Program, and is inviting comments on these results. While the study could not lead to conclusions about whether the New gTLD Program has caused a change in competition on the domain name market, some of its conclusions point to interesting trends, such as: a decline in the average and median retail prices for registration of both legacy and new gTLDs; an increase in the percentage of new gTLD registrations among all gTLD registrations; a general trend for regional new gTLDs (e.g., .nyc and .berlin) to lead to a decline in new gTLD and legacy registrations in the respective region; the largest percentage growth in the number of registry operators occurred in the Asia Pacific and European regions.
