Google introduces heat alerts in Search

Mar, 29, 2023 Hi-network.com

In response to the increased frequency of extreme weather events, Google is introducing heat alerts in Search and AI-powered tools to help communities prepare and adapt to hotter temperatures.

Working in collaboration with the Global Heat Health Information Network (GHHIN), the Search tool will provide information on extreme heat, such as heat wave predictions, advice on how to stay cool, and related health concerns when people do heat-related searches.

To combat the 'heat islands' phenomenon in urban areas, Google is extending the Tree Canopy project, which integrates AI and aerial imagery to improve urban forestry planning. The company is also planning to utilise the same combination of technologies to map out the solar reflectivity of cities and increase the implementation of cool roofs.

Furthermore, Google is allocating funds to nonprofit organisations engaged in climate action, such as the World Resources Institute (WRI) and American Forests and Resilient Cities Catalyst, as part of its sustainability efforts.
