The German federal parliament (the Bundestag) approved the new IT Security Law 2.0 to increase the security of information technology systems by restricting the role that untrustworthy suppliers play in 5G technology. The law allows the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) to request inventory data from telecommunications operators. The law also grants the authority to the BSI to issue orders to telecoms operators to protect against 'specific threats' to information security. Moreover, POLITICO reported that the law gives more power to the interior ministry to block 5G contracts and less to other ministries, such as the economic ministry who has been more favorable to Huawei in the past.
