.com and .net among the gTLDs with most webpages hosting child sexual abuse content, says Internet Watch Foundation

In its recentlypublished report for 2016, the UK Internet Watch Foundation reveals that the number of webpages containing child sexual abuse imagery has increased with 21% from 2015, accounting for a total number of 57,335 URLs hosted on 2,416 domain names worldwide. The identified URLs were traced to 50 countries, the top five countries being Netherlands, USA, Canada, France, and Russia. Five top level domains (.com, .net, .se, .io, and .cc) accounted for 80% of all webpages identified as containing child sexual abuse images and videos. The report also shows that there is a growing number of websites using a new gTLD and dedicated to the distribution of child sexual abuse imagery.
