CNIL publishes results of its public consultation and survey on rights of children online

French regulator CNIL has published results of the survey and online consultation organized in 2020,  on the protection of the personal data of minors including their rights online. While the survey focused on the digital practices of minors and their parents' perception of them, the public consultation, published o focused on the issues of data protection for minors.

The survey indicates a massive autonomous digital practices among children that includes internet surfing without parental supervision, children connecting to the internet much earlier, parents underestimate the  internet use of children and parents preferring activity monitoring solutions for their children online.

From the public consultation CNIL could identify two major trends: (1) the desire for minors to gain autonomy; and (2) the desire to strengthen their online protection.

The report stressed on the need to harmonize at European level the  various solutions adopted in terms of verifying age and parental.
