China investigates social media platforms for violations of cybersecurity laws

China has opened an investigation into the country's three largest social media companies: Weibo, WeChat, and Baidu Tieba. According to the Cyberspace Administration, the companies could have violated cybersecurity laws by spreading 'violence, terror, false rumours, pornography and other hazards to national security, public safety, social order'. Baidu responded that it will 'actively cooperate with the government' to rectify the issue.
