Reacting to the leaked information of Facebook planning to create an Instagram for children, several NGOs and organisations such as Center for Digital Democracy and Norwegian Cancer Society have written an open letter to Facebook arguing that such a platform for children poses risks of online grooming and mental health issues for children.
According to UK police reports, Instagram has the highest rates of sexual grooming. In 2020, investigations found over 20 million child sexual abuse images on the platform in 2020 alone.
