The Royal Mint announced new plans for the construction of an electronics recycling facility designed to extract gold from the UK's e-waste. The facility will be built in South Wales and aims to address the environmental impact of e-waste and create a new source of high-quality precious metals.
The new recycling plant will apply the chemical process created by Canadian firm Excir to recover gold within the circuit boards of laptops and mobile phones. It is said to be capable of recovering over 99 per cent of the precious metals contained within e-waste.
