An Oregon regulator asserted in an advisory opinion that Uber drivers should be classified as employees under state law. The Bureau of Labor and Industries Commissioner stated that despite Uber drivers using their own vehicles and determining their own working hours, are employees because they work for the company's benefit and are economically dependent on the ride-hailing company. This statement comes in contrast toFlorida Department of Economic Opportunity's finding thatUber drivers are not employees.
