Cisco WiFi Brings the Pope's Message to the People

It's not every day that the Pope visits your city. But Sunday, September 27 in Philadelphia was not a normal day; it was the culmination of Pope Francis's papal visit to the United States.

And Cisco was right in the thick of it.

The Philadelphia Archdiocese announcedthere were over 900,000 people there, though other news outlets claimed there were 340,000 of the faithful. Whatever attendance figure is correct, the point is that there was a lot of people in a small area.

While a small portion of the crowd was able to be present at Independence Hall, the vast majority of people were located between Eakins Oval and City Hall. This stretch of roughly two miles was the area where the crowd gathered witness the Pope's Mass streamed live over Wi-Fi deployed by Comcast utilizing Cisco Aironet 3700 Series Access Points.

There were 250 Cisco 3700 Access Points deployed on 31 jumbotron big screen video monitors along the route. These access points allowed the hundreds of thousands individuals the ability to stream the services live and share their thoughts, pictures and video memories with others around the world.

September 27, 2015 was a truly once-in-a-lifetime event for each of the few hundred thousand unique users. And it was made special with the help of Cisco transferring terabytes of to devices all over the world through the Cisco wireless networking solution.
