Canada moves towards ratification of Marrakesh Treaty

The Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled, adopted on 27 June, 2013 iin Marrakesh, is a World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) treaty which sets mandatory limitations and exceptions on copyright law, to increase accessibility to published works for persons with visual disabilities. Canada was set to join the Marrakesh Treaty in April 2015, and last month, the new Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Develompemnt started steps for reforms necessary to allow ratification of the treaty. The treaty requires 20 country ratifications to enter into force. Currently, 14 countries have ratified the treaty.
