Brazilian senate rushes to approve a "Fake News Law"

Brazil's senate seeks to regulate online content and so-called 'fake news', explained the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). Bill 2630, called 'Lei das Fake News', has raised concerns about privacy, the freedom of speech, and the freedom of expression. The law would compel Internet users to give personal information, such as a photo ID and a document proving their address, to social media and messaging applications. If the bill passed, it would grant law enforcement access to that data without requiring a court order. Furthermore, it would also give a judge the ability to fine, suspend, or block application providers that do not abide by the law.
